Morning (Arrival):
Arrive at El Salvador International Airport (SAL) in the morning.
Pick up your rental car or meet your pre-arranged transportation.
Travel to your accommodation in or near San Salvador, check-in, and drop off your luggage.
Afternoon (Volcán de San Salvador & Rainbow Slide):
Head to El Boquerón National Park (also known as Volcán de San Salvador). The drive from the city is relatively short.
Enjoy a light hike around the crater rim. The main viewpoint offers spectacular views of the crater and the city of San Salvador below.
After your visit, make your way to the Rainbow Slide, which is often located nearby in a recreational park on the volcano's slopes. This is a fun and popular photo-op.
Late Afternoon/Evening (Puerta del Diablo):
Drive to Puerta del Diablo (The Devil's Door). This is a dramatic rock formation with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, the Pacific Ocean, and Lake Ilopango. It's a fantastic spot for sunset.
After visiting Puerta del Diablo, drive to Santa Ana city for the night. Santa Ana is the second-largest city in El Salvador, is considered safe, and is the perfect base for our early morning volcano hike.
Morning (Santa Ana Volcano):
Start the day early. Drive from Santa Ana to Santa Ana Volcano (Volcán de Ilamatepec). The drive from the city of Santa Ana is approximately 30-45 minutes.
The hike to the summit of the volcano is a moderate trek that typically takes around 4-5 hours round trip. It's best to go with a guide or a group. The reward at the top is the surreal, turquoise-colored crater lake.
Remember to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a hat.
Afternoon (Tazumal):
After our hike, drive a short distance to the Tazumal Archaeological Site in the town of Chalchuapa.
Explore the impressive Mayan pyramids and learn about the region's rich pre-Columbian history.
Evening:
Drive back to San Salvador.
Enjoy a final dinner in the city, perhaps exploring the vibrant food scene.
Morning:
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and some final sightseeing or souvenir shopping in San Salvador or we can go the beach.
We could visit the historic city center, including the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace, or explore the local markets.
Afternoon/Evening (Departure):
Head to the airport for your evening flight, allowing ample time for the drive and check-in procedures.
