We set out from Tbilisi with Gamarjoba Tours in a comfortable van, leading a tight-knit group of seven on an incredible day trip across the border into Armenia's Lori region. Our journey began with the breathtaking frescoes of Akhtala Monastery and the grand medieval architecture of Haghpat Monastery. Midday brought a true cultural highlight as we gathered at a local home for a traditional Khnjuyk, an authentic, heartwarming Armenian feast filled with rich local dishes, overflowing platters, and warm hospitality. From there, we explored the fascinating contrasts of the Debed River valley, passing the towering, abandoned Soviet copper factory, crossing the historic 10th-century Sanahin stone bridge, and diving into aviation history at the Mikoyan Brothers Museum. After wrapping up our tour at the serene Sanahin Monastery, we made the smooth, comfortable drive back to Tbilisi, reflecting on a truly unforgettable cross-border adventure.
