Bluegrass & Bondings: Our 3-Family Louisville Getaway

Traveling in a large group is always an adventure, but bringing three families (15 of us in total, including all the kids) to Kentucky made for an unforgettable trip! From iconic baseball history and scenic parks to vibrant fan crowds and amazing food, Louisville delivered a perfect mix of culture, nature, and entertainment for all ages.

Where We Stayed: Shepherdsville, KY

We chose Shepherdsville as our base, which proved to be a quiet, convenient spot just south of Louisville, giving us plenty of space to relax together after full days of exploring the city.

Day 1: Classic Louisville Landmarks, Photoshoot & Flavor

• Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory

  • We kicked off our trip at this iconic downtown staple, where giant bats outside welcome you to a fascinating look at the craftsmanship behind baseball history.

• Museum Row Walk & Lunch

  • Strolling through historic Main Street gave us a chance to admire the architecture, soak in the urban energy, and grab a delicious group lunch right in the heart of downtown.

• Kentucky Derby Museum

  • In the afternoon, we immersed ourselves in the rich tradition of Churchill Downs, exploring interactive exhibits that bring the thrill and heritage of the "Run for the Roses" to life.

• Cherokee Park (Family Photoshoot)

  • Designed by legendary landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, this lush park provided a breathtaking green backdrop as all 15 of us dressed in traditional Indian attire for a memorable family photo session.

• Dinner at Tandoori Fusion

  • We capped off our first evening with a fantastic feast of vibrant, authentic Indian flavors that easily satisfied our hungry, 15-person crew.

Day 2: Underground Adventures, River Views & World Cup Fever

• Louisville Mega Cavern

  • We started the morning beneath the city, exploring this massive underground former limestone cavern that offers a cool and unique subterranean world to experience.

• Lunch Under the Big Four Bridge

  • We grabbed lunch and sat on the shaded park benches right under the soaring metal beams of the bridge, taking in relaxing views of the Ohio River waterfront.

• Big Four Bridge Walk (Jeffersonville, Indiana side)

  • Walking across this impressive pedestrian-only bridge allowed us to cross state lines over the Ohio River, ending up on the charming Jeffersonville waterfront.

• FIFA 2026 World Cup Final Watch Party (Near Louisville Visitor Center)

  • We wrapped up our Kentucky journey right in downtown Louisville near the Visitor Center, joining an electric crowd in the arena area to watch the thrilling final match of the 2026 World Cup on the big screens.

This trip was the ideal balance of city sights, family traditions, and big-event energy. Kentucky welcomed our group with open arms, and we left with great memories (and plenty of great photos) to last a lifetime!
