Our unforgettable family adventure in Sri Lanka began with our arrival in bustling Colombo, where a quick lunch fueled our journey south towards the serene shores of Turtle Beach. Along the scenic drive, we paused at Bentota for an exhilarating Bentota River Safari, a highlight that saw us enjoying a unique fish spa, witnessing the intricate process of cinnamon stick making, and visiting the tranquil Kande Viharaya Temple, a prominent Buddhist temple in the area. As the safari concluded, we were swept up in the vibrant energy of a local Perahera festival featuring majestic elephants walking in procession with dancers in masks and costumes, a moment of cultural immersion we'll never forget. Settling into the comfortable Blue Sky Resort at Turtle Beach, the next two mornings were pure bliss for the kids, who eagerly stepped directly onto the sandy beach from our resort stairs to feed the gentle turtles, collect countless shells, and splash in the warm ocean waters. Our explorations continued with a visit to a moonstone mine, revealing the secrets behind these beautiful gems, followed by a delightful evening spent wandering the historic ramparts of Galle Fort, culminating in a delicious dinner at the charming Peddler's Inn. After another morning of joyful beach play with the turtles and shell collecting, we departed for Colombo, where we enjoyed a final lunch in Sri Lanka. Our cultural tour continued with a visit to the magnificent Old and new Kathiresan Temples (a Lord Ganesha temple, part of the Nagarathar community's heritage), before we indulged in some souvenir shopping at the Laksala store. A visit to the towering Lotus Tower offered city views, followed by a final dinner at A2B before heading to our hotel near the airport, ready for our flight out the next morning, carrying cherished memories of this incredible island nation.
