GUATAMALA
GUATAMALA
Day 1: Arrive in Guatemala City & Transfer to Antigua
Direct private transfer to Antigua (1 hour). Check into a family-friendly hotel with a courtyard.
Day 2: Antigua – Chocolate & Cobblestones
Morning: Walking tour of the city (Central Park, Arch of Santa Catalina).
Afternoon: Chocolate-making workshop at ChocoMuseo. Perfect for kids of both ages.
Day 3: Pacaya Volcano Adventure
Take the morning tour to Pacaya. Hire horses for the 3-year-old and perhaps the 11-year-old. Roast marshmallows over volcanic heat vents at the top.
Day 4: Hobbitenango & One of the 3 options below
Visit Hobbitenango, a Hobbit-themed eco-park with "giant" swings, mini-golf, and incredible volcano views.
Afternoon: Caoba Farms is a sustainable organic farm located right on the edge of Antigua. It’s a very casual, open space where kids can see farm animals (chickens, pigs, etc.), run through garden rows, and explore a small butterfly preserve. There is often live music on weekends and a "farm-to-table" restaurant with a massive playground. OR
Afternoon: The "Artisan Workshop" (Jade Carving or Mayan Weaving) - If your family prefers to stay in the city center and stay active, try a short Jade Workshop. At places like Jade Maya, the 11-year-old can actually help polish a piece of stone, and the 3-year-old can watch the colorful transformations.
OR
Afternoon: visit a Macadamia Nut Farm. This is widely considered the best agricultural alternative for kids because it is more "hands-on." You take a short, free tour of the orchards where kids can see how the nuts grow. The highlight for children is the macadamia nut shelling machine and the free macadamia oil facials (which are very gentle and fun).
Day 5: Travel to Lake Atitlán (Panajachel)
3-hour drive. Stop at Iximché ruins on the way (smaller and very manageable for a 3-year-old to run around).
Day 6: Villages of Atitlán
Private boat tour. Visit San Juan La Laguna to see textile weaving and the Bee Farm (very popular for kids to see stingless bees).
Day 7: Atitlán Nature Reserve
Located in Panajachel. Features a butterfly preserve, monkeys, and a zip-line course (toddler-safe cables for the 3-year-old and high-speed lines for the 11-year-old).
Day 8: Fly to Flores (Tikal Region)
Drive back to GUA airport for a 1-hour evening flight to Flores.
Day 9: Tikal National Park
Hire a private guide. Use a baby carrier for the 3-year-old. The 11-year-old can climb Temple IV for a view over the canopy. Spot howler monkeys and toucans.
Day 10: Flores Island & Departure
Leisurely breakfast on the island. Afternoon flight back to GUA to connect with your international departure.
